West meets East…in about 2 months

Well it’s official.

In two months exactly, I will be on a plane on the way to New York City. Yes that’s right. I have officially accepted Teach For America’s offer to join the 2008 New York City corps.

It still doesn’t even seem real to me. In one day, I decided my post-graduate career and decided to move across the country to a city I’ve been to only once.

Am I getting in over my head here?

   Congratulations on your acceptance!
   I am going to be an 08 Corp Member with you in New York and am so excited. I know how you’re feeling – I had only been to NYC once when I accepted. If you have any questions about the beginning steps feel free to contact me, I would love to help (as much as I can only being a few steps ahead of you, lol).

   Welcome to TFA! I’m a West Coast transplant as well (San Diego/Santa Barbara to North Carolina – where I’d never been before in my life). It certainly was …overwhelming, but in a good way.

   I’m also a fellow chalk hater. My students find it amusing to talk about chalk to me. I can’t stand it *shudder.* I have a chalk board in my classroom, but I bought panels of white board at Lowes to put up over it. You’ll be able to do the same if the need arises.

   Congrats, and welcome to the Corps! I also just got admitted for ’08 Baltimore. Don’t worry about being crazy, it’s idealists like us who are (fingers crossed) going to help fix this problem!

   Hey! I’m also an 08 corp member…and I’m doing the same as you- only in reverse! I am moving across the country to a city I had never been to until AFTER I accepted my placement! It’s crazy and scary and VERY exciting! Good luck with your move! (Where in the West are you coming from) I’m going from the DC area in Va to LA.
